There are different ways to have a lawyer represent you even if you don’t have funds to pay for their services. The most common is the “contingency fee” arrangement. This is an arrangement where the payment for a lawyer is contingent upon that lawyer getting some form of recovery for the client. Another way is through pro bono representation. This happens when a lawyer agrees that you won’t have to pay for his/her services.

In Ontario, the statute of limitation for car accident injury torts against a negligent driver is two years, as per the Limitations Act, 2002, s. 4. You also must provide notice to the defendant within 120 days of the accident.

You don’t necessarily need a lawyer when dealing with an insurance claim. However, it is a good idea to have a lawyer beside you when dealing with one since lawyers who specialize in insurance claims know the dos and don’ts so that you would receive the compensation you deserve.
